Description:
Skulls are iconic and have meaning without the need for words. They are part of a universal language.
The skull and cross bones also known as a Black Jack. A ship flying the Black jack was a clear message to seafarers of any language because they understood the iconography.
The skull when used in art is highlighting themes of mortality and the fleeting nature of life. The skull symbolises the inevitability of death.
My personal reason for painting the skulls is that they are a powerful icon and represent all of us; human beings without age, sex or skin colour.
