Description:

Xania is an old Greek word meaning to be hospitable to strangers. To welcome strangers and not judge strangers. A sentiment that a lot of modern humans appear to have lost sight of.

In the style of the Eastern Orthodox icon. This artwork is the embodiment of a spirit.

This painting is part of my Doof series. I am using a traditional East Orthodox icon who is standing behind a set of 21st Century DJ decks with headphones. This is to express the spiritual connection which is found at a traditional Australian Bush Doof.

Description:

I am exploring ancient nautical history and stories.

From the voyage of the Argo. This image depicts the Cyanean Rocks, which according to the legend of Jason and the Argonauts, collided together to smash passing vessels. They survived this and many other perils along the voyage to return to their homeland and loved ones.

I am exploring ancient nautical history and stories.

Saint Brendan (Brendan the Navigator and Abbot) celebrating Mass on his seven year voyage bound for Paradise AD512-AD519. He thought he had landed on an island, which turned out to be a giant Sea Monster. They sailed past islands with rivers of gold fire and great pillars of crystal. They finally arrived at the promised land of Saints. (Novascotia) Awed by what they had seen, they returned to Ireland rejoicing.

A tail of salvation, monastic obedience and the faith required to undertake such a pilgrimage.
